Down with Love is a 2003 American romantic comedy film directed by Peyton Reed and written by Eve Ahlert and Dennis Drake. It stars Renée Zellweger and Ewan McGregor , and is a pastiche of the early 1960s American "no-sex sex comedies" [3] such as Pillow Talk and Lover Come Back (both which starred Rock Hudson , Doris Day , and Tony Randall ) and the "myriad spawn" [4] of derivative films that followed.
Set in the 1960s, the movie follows the story of Barbara Novak (Rene Zellweger), a lady with a female ax to grind who moves to New York City and has her book, `Down With Love,' published.
"Down With Love" is one of those movies where the concept is so good it carries you through the first third of the film on goodwill and incredibly kitschy costume and set design. But the hollowness takes its toll and success or failure is completely dependent on how you feel about its two leads.
Down With Love is a Taiwan drama and I must confess that it's among one of the best Taiwan dramas I have watched plus one of the best that has been produced so far. It features 2 wonderful leads Ella Chen and Jerry Yan, and some couple of really good actors. The storyline is really nothing new - a boss falling in love with a nanny he hired.
"Down with Love" is a popular song with lyrics by E.Y. Harburg and music by Harold Arlen. It was originally written in 1937 for Kay Thompson, but introduced by her replacement, Vivian Vance, in the Broadway musical Hooray for What!. The song was recorded in 1940 by Eddie Condon's Orchestra with vocals by Lee Wiley.
